If your son is planning on reading from the Torah in Israel you should discuss this with the person who is teaching him. The order of Torah readings is sometimes different in Israel because of the way holidays are celebrated in Israel. It is possible to have one portion read in the USA and a completely different portion read in Israel.
Holidays such as Passover, Shavuot & Sukot are two day holidays outside of Israel and only one day in Israel. When a two day holiday occurs outside of Israel the regular Torah reading may be delayed while the regular reading may have resumed in Israel because the holiday was only celebrated for one day.
A rabbi or teacher who knows the Bar Mitzvah boy is planning on reading from the Torah in Israel can provide you with the correct portion for Israel or you can check out the Hebrew calendar at http://www.hebcal.com/hebcal/. Remember to click on the "Israel" button if you are planning on having a Bar Mitzvah in Israel. |
